British Association of Social Workers

BASW is the largest national organisation representing Social Workers. Members are committed to a Code of Ethics which can be found on the website. The site contains some useful background information on Social Work, a discussion site for issues relating to Social Work, and a good jobsite listing both Social Work and Social Care vacancies.

Community Care

Community Care is a magazine covering the social care sector. Its website contains a wide range of information about current issues in social care and social work, as well as a jobs page.

Children Webmag

This online childcare magazine provides a variety of background information which will be of use to managers, practitioners and students, for example: articles, statistics. legal information, recommended reading, information sources, details of key reports and training courses.

Care Quality Commission

In April 2009 the Care Quality Commission took over the work of the Commission for Social Care Inspection, The Healthcare Commission and the Mental Health Act Commission bringing together regulation of the quality of health and adult social care for the first time.

Department of Health

The Department of Health is the Government department with responsibility for matters relating to social work and social care. Its website contains information about recent developments in social work and social care, press releases and an extensive page of links to other useful sites.

Ofsted

Ofsted - the Office for Standards in Education  is the inspectorate for children and learners in England. From April 2007 Ofsted’s remit has expanded to include the children’s services work of the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI), together with the Children and Families Court Advisory and Support Service (CAFCASS) inspection remit of Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Court Administration (HMICA) and the inspection work of the Adult Learning Inspectorate (ALI). The organisation’s full title has changed to The Office for Standards in Education, Children Services and Skills but it will continue to be known as Ofsted.

Social Care Association

The Social Care Association aims to promote good professional practice in all aspects of social care. The information on the website is mainly of interest to people already working in the field, but there is a page of job vacancies and provision to contact the SCA with queries.
