Lorraine - Residential workerLorraine first worked in a children’s home as a chef. Prior to that, I’d been involved in care as a volunteer in a day care centre. After starting work at the children’s home, I was invited on a residential holiday as part of the residential team. I was then offered a post as a residential worker. I’ve been working with young people for 17 years and really enjoy it. I am also responsible within the team for general household upkeep. I think it’s important to create an environment that’s as much like a family home as possible. If their environment feels welcoming and relaxed, it has a positive effect on the boys and their behaviour." |
