Getting Started Social Work Degree

Undergraduate Courses

If you are a student progressing to the second or third year of your social work degree you will be subject to existing funding arrangements.

The table below applies to students starting their degree course in 2009/10 academic year who are subject to variable tuition fees.

Student category Fee contribution Bursary
Full time course studying in London N/A £4975
Full time course studying outside London N/A £4575

Part time students will be offered the full time rate X 3 and then divided by the number of years the course lasts.

The bursary can be used to pay for tuition fees if you so wish. A contribution to help with expenses for attending your practice placements has been built into the bursary. (£575 for full time courses and pro-rata for part time courses based on the duration of the course). It is expected that the agency offering your placement will contribute towards the travel costs incurred while carrying out your placement duties.

Undergraduate students studying on undergraduate courses can access HE support such as the Student Loan for Fees and the Student Loan. Further details are available on the Directgov website.
